Yoga Teachers Workshop: Adjusting Asana: hands-free or hands-on

Yoga Teacher Workshop: Adjusting Asana: Hands-free or Hands-on

1.30-5pm Saturday 28th March 2020
Goldendoor Studio, Archway | Map

A look at adjusting asana appropriately and safely using both hands on and verbal cues and gaining the confidence to decide when, which and how.

As yoga teachers, we’re always looking for ways to encourage a more beneficial alignment and deeper experience of asana for our students. But we also need to respect their autonomy and to manage our input with care and compassion.  In this half day workshop we will look at when, how and why we might use touch and when verbal cues or demo might be more appropriate.

We will cover

– Permission and trust

– Verbal cues to help students find their own expression of a pose

– Hands on Adjustments for the most common poses from Hatha, Flow and Yin Yoga

– Appropriate use of touch and pressure

– Working with different body types

– Guidelines for our own safety and stability when using hands-on adjustments

“Thanks for the great sequencing workshop, I really enjoyed it and left feeling inspired and more confident to experiment.  Great to meet and connect with other yogis too. Look forward to hearing about any other workshops in future” Marj

This workshop will be invaluable for those who are already teaching and feel they could use a little more clarity around supporting students in asana, as well lots of ideas for those who are just starting out.

You will be given tools, tips and useful advice gleaned from 20 years of experience in teaching dynamic and flowing styles of yoga as well as yin and restorative.

As small group of 10 maximum, we’ll discuss and consider the use of demo, verbal cues and physical touch when encouraging our students to find a safer or deeper experience in their practice . We will  break down the essentials of some of the most commonly practiced asana, focusing on the basic techniques of applying safe and practical hands-on assists as well as giving appropriate verbal cues.  We’ll be using partner work to explore the experience , getting lots of practice and feedback.  A fully interactive and immersive experience for everyone.

Handouts will be provided but bring a notebook too!!

Completion of the workshop will include a Yoga Alliance CPD Certificate of Attendance.
